April 29th update

Not much new to report as far as Rich's health. He has good times and bad, but the overall picture still remains the same. Last night was (according to his own summation) the worst he has experienced so far. He has enjoyed visiting with our family members who braved the trip to the Great Northwest, Donna & Garry and Sally & Dave. Their presence here with us has brought us so much comfort.

Rich has been sleeping a lot but when awake he is driven to paint. He also reminisces about his life, especially his childhood. Yesterday Rich confided to our hospice nurse that he really wants to see his mom.

We want you to know we read your messages and savor the love.

  1. Dear Rich,
When you read the comments on your blogspace, you must realize how loved you are! (Thank you Rachael for making this possible) The untimeliness of your disease and the depth of your faith have caused many of us to reflect on the purpose of our own lives. When we reach the stage of being fully 'actualized, one element in the essence of who we are is realized in the impact of our life on the lives of others. Knowing, because of our life, another person has experienced more laughter, more love, more mercy, more joy, more forgiveness, more grace, more wisdom; and most importantly, been changed for all of Eternity - that is what becomes the most significant and profound in our life.
Your blog archive has provided a small glimpse into the impact your life has had and continues to have. Even though you're now more physically disabled than before, you continue to make a difference. The following quote by A.L.Stone describes one aspect of your spirituality which impacts all of us: "Large asking and large expectation on our part honor God."
Your life exemplifies grand faith through your large asking and large expectation which results in giving great honor to God.
Rich, thank you for your example of living faith which contunues to make a difference in our thinking and in our lives.
Zephaniah 3:17 is nearly impossible to comprehend, but what amazing, encouragiing words they are! "The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."
God is rejoicing over you, your family lovingly surrounds you, and we're upholding you with prayer....even better- make that "large asking."
Love to you, more than you'll know, Carol

  2. thank you Rich. and thank you Carol. you've both meant more to me (and continue to!) more than YOU know. and you both bring me closer to God, and thus help me seek His greater purpose in MY life, right now. and to lean on the assurance of FAITH.
may God bless you and keep you, and keep us ALL, in His infinite and eternal care.

  3. rich and peg - thank you so much for the update.
rich, i do hope you'll get a chance to see your mom. she's an incredible woman and her presence would be a wonderful gift. when i think of my aunt freda, i see a serenely resilient woman whose faith has never wavered in the face of so many daunting challenges over the years. i hope you can take some solace and strength in her example...keeping up your faith and strength in the face of your daily challenges. continued prayers...

    love,

    laura.
