This is Jacob, wanting to fill you all in. My dad is NOT having the surgery after all this morning. I guess there was some mix up. Please pray for my mom because she did get the virus that was rampant at the nursing home. She is VERY sick and probably needs to see a doctor herself. We are looking further into the hospice options this morning. We just want my dad to be comfortable and at home. No more hospitals, no more nursing homes. So, we are looking into how we can afford hospice and home health care for him. Right now that means probably bringing him back to Salem, where they had been living (about an hour south of Portland, where my sister Rachael lives with her family) and there may be a future conversation about bringing him back to Michigan. His comfort and happiness are the most important things for us right now, more than preparing him for any future surgery, which has just made him miserable.
Thanks for the love and prayers. We feel them!

Hi Jacob,
ReplyDeleteThank you for communicating the latest for your family ... we just want you to know we support you 100% with the decision to move forward with Hospice. It's a tough one to make ... we know ... we've been there! But ultimately it is the most loving thing to do for your dad!
"6For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. 7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." (2 Timothy 4:6-8 NIV)
You can rest in the assurance that he will ultimately be with Jesus and oh, what a glorious day that will be!
If we can be of any assistance, please let us know! Our prayers will continue for everyone's comfort in this decision and ultimate peace!
Love always,
Mark and Linda
Maybe Rachael or Jake could put this in the right place........I (peg) just had to share this with all of you. Rich is very depressed and nearly giving up....he asked me to read the 88th Psalm. Here it what is says......and please pray.
ReplyDeletePsalm 88 (New International Version)
Psalm 88
A song. A psalm of the Sons of Korah. For the director of music. According to mahalath leannoth. A maskil of Heman the Ezrahite.
1[a] [b]
O LORD, the God who saves me,
day and night I cry out before you.
2 May my prayer come before you;
turn your ear to my cry.
3 For my soul is full of trouble
and my life draws near the grave. [c]
4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit;
I am like a man without strength.
5 I am set apart with the dead,
like the slain who lie in the grave,
whom you remember no more,
who are cut off from your care.
6 You have put me in the lowest pit,
in the darkest depths.
7 Your wrath lies heavily upon me;
you have overwhelmed me with all your waves.
Selah
8 You have taken from me my closest friends
and have made me repulsive to them.
I am confined and cannot escape;
9 my eyes are dim with grief.
I call to you, O LORD, every day;
I spread out my hands to you.
10 Do you show your wonders to the dead?
Do those who are dead rise up and praise you?
Selah
11 Is your love declared in the grave,
your faithfulness in Destruction [d] ?
12 Are your wonders known in the place of darkness,
or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion?
13 But I cry to you for help, O LORD;
in the morning my prayer comes before you.
14 Why, O LORD, do you reject me
and hide your face from me?
15 From my youth I have been afflicted and close to death;
I have suffered your terrors and am in despair.
16 Your wrath has swept over me;
your terrors have destroyed me.
17 All day long they surround me like a flood;
they have completely engulfed me.
18 You have taken my companions and loved ones from me;
the darkness is my closest friend.
